The Letter that Changed the World
1900- To find the best location to experiment with, the Wright Brothers wrote to several places. William Tate, Kitty Hawk Postmaster, replied on August 18, 1900 – in true Outer Banks welcoming fashion –
“This would be a fine place with steady winds, healthy climate, daily mails and telegraph.”
“If you decide to… come, I will take pleasure in doing all I can for your convenience and success and pleasure. I assure you, you will find a hospitable people when you come among us.”
This hospitality led to changing the world.
Kitty Dunes continues this tradition today. |
