Rob Snyder: Paintings of Pier, Surf and Sea life
Art Gallery at Roanoke Island Festival Park. Robbie Snyder of Kill Devil Hills creates a fascinating show that speaks to his love of the marine environment. A painter and a sculptor, Snyder has a rich portfolio that includes huge acrylic paintings featuring a combination of airbrush and regular brushwork. Think ocean, waves, piers, dolphins, turtles, surfers and more. He also paints marine themes in oils of big surf and lots of light from places he’s traveled in the Caribbean with his wife Debbie. A third series of jellyfish paintings features his epoxy resin acrylic layering technique. It is a multi-level process that yields lustrous works with rich depth. His sculptures are created using laser cut steel that he airbrushes to add color. He creates abstract sculptures and usable furniture from the steel that also can include bamboo, glass and granite. Snyder is a well known muralist on the Outer Banks who has been painting murals here since the late 1970’s.He is an avid surfer and the father of Noah Snyder a professional surfer. Snyder’s work is big and beautiful. He is a master with the airbrush and appreciates capturing a real quality of the sea in his work. While he is a marvelous technician, his art also has a message. It chronicles humankind’s relationship to the sea. People passionate about the coast will be thrilled with this exhibition.
