Over 500 items of affordable framed originals, reproductions and photography that are no larger than 16"x16" as well as pottery, glass, jewelry, fiber, metal, mixed media and wood for holiday shopping. Who is the next Outer Banks Idol?
The Outer Banks Music Showcase wants to answer that question. Will it be you? Like they say in the lottery: "You've got to be in it to win it!" 23rd Annual Oyster Feast
The Outer Banks welcomes oyster and fish lovers to Stumpy Point. It’s that time of year again, a cherished winter tradition on the Outer Banks! The Village of Stumpy Point is hosting the 23rd Annual Oyster Feast sponsored by Bayview Chapel on Saturday, February 9th, from Noon to 5 p.m. Warm up to the buffet table for “All You Can Eat” fried and steamed oysters and fried fish complete with all the trimmings! There’s also a Bonus bake sale of fresh cakes and desserts. If salty oysters, fresh seafood and home cooking are your thing, you’ve got to mark your calendar for this friendly, down home dining experience in the mainland Dare County village of Stumpy Point on the Outer Banks! The cost is $20 dollars for adults, $5 for children 10 years old and under. Dining is at the Stumpy Point Community Center. A great way to get that Valentines Weekend started right! Roanoke Island Festival Park Events
Roanoke Island Festival Park is an interactive family attraction that celebrates the first English settlement in America. The centerpiece of the 25-acre island park adjacent to Manteo, North Carolina, is Elizabeth II, a representation of one of the seven English ships from the Roanoke Voyage of 1585. Costumed Elizabethan sailors greet visitors and help them experience sixteenth century seafaring life. Also visit the Settlement site, Roanoke Adventure Museum and see the Legend of Two-Path film. Events are scheduled throughout the year in our indoor Film Theatre and our Outdoor Pavilion. Admission is charged. The on-site Art Gallery, fossil pit, Museum Store, Outer Banks History Center and marsh-side boardwalks are free and open to all. Hours vary seasonally. We will cover basic botanical information, the plants in The Gardens, and the plants in Elizabethan England and in the New World in the late 1500’s. Use your senses to investigate Shakespeare’s herb garden. Listen to herbal wisdom of the sixteenth century and learn what modern chemists say. Freedmen’s Colony Celebration with Kal David
7:30 p.m. Film Theatre at Roanoke Island Festival Park. Kal David is a Chicago native who grew up with the 60s' generation of urban and suburban kids who soaked up the local Chicago Blues scene and went on to make contributions to the genre of their own. Kal's high school garage band included Peter Cetera, later with the rock band "Chicago". Kal’s' credits include stints as lead guitarist with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers (famous for launching the careers of Eric Clapton, Peter Green and Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones) and Rock and R&B legend Bo Diddly. Today, Kal teaches and performs nationally and internationally with his trio "The Real Deal” His expressive and soulful guitar playing is a fabulous blend of blues, jazz and good old R&B and his vocal style evokes images of Ray Charles. Local Band "Old Enough to Know Better”, a group of OBX musicians, will open the show. Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased at the Park or at other locations. Programs and Possibilities
What programs would enhance your Gardens experience? Would you like to give a program at The Gardens? What would you like to see on The Gardens calendar? We are ready for volunteers to have impact on areas of The Gardens that need special care - the rose garden, the herb garden, the Children’s Woodland and Wildlife Garden. We have developed themed tours and need docents to help us enrich our tour bus/school group experience here. Classes include new PowerPoint slideshows and information and walks through The Gardens elaborating the theme of the day (weather permitting). Anne White will be the instructor. Participants should dress to be outdoors for part of each class. Beverages provided for those who wish to bring a bag lunch and socialize after class. $10 per class; free for those willing to commit to 3 volunteer hours per class.
